Taking it all In

The Kulima Collective was born out of data. The 2019 American Express, State of Women-Owned Business Report presented the facts:

  • Black women-owned businesses (BWOB) are 21% of all women-owned businesses.
  • Black women represented the highest rate of growth of any group in the number of firms between 2014 – 2019.
  • Earned average revenue per firm for BWOB is $24,000 vs $142,900 among all women-owned businesses, This is the biggest gap of any minority group.

Changing the Trend

In short, the data is telling us that while Black women are starting businesses at a quicker pace, our average revenue is decreasing over time. The driver of this massive gap vs. our non-minority peers is education and a broad base of support. A sound understanding of what is required to run a successful business and an intimate community of like-minded business owners can help propel businesses forward.

This is where The Kulima Collective comes in.

We present the business fundamentals that enable BWBO to develop a framework of how to manage their businesses. Additionally, we also tap into self-awareness, and self-care, ensuring that the business owner is as strong as the business itself.
